Michael A. Farbowitz, MD is one of the only fellowship-trained refractive surgeons in the area. He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the Johns Hopkins University. He attended NYU School of Medicine and served his residency in Ophthalmology at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Dr. Farbowitz then performed a specialized fellowship in laser vision correction and advanced cataract surgery techniques at the prestigious Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA.
As a Board Certified Comprehensive Ophthalmologist, Dr. Farbowitz cares for most eye disorders in patients of all ages. He has a special interest in refractive surgery, which includes laser vision correction and new technology lens implants at the time of cataract surgery.
Dr. Farbowitz has been performing Laser vision correction surgery since 1998, and has vast experience in the field. He is certified to use a number of lasers, including the VISX S4. He is also performing customized laser surgery using state of the art bladeless LASIK with wavefront technology.
Dr. Farbowitz performs the most advanced small incision no-stitch cataract surgery at a state of the art ambulatory surgery center. His experience in laser refractive surgery helps him obtain the best possible visual results after cataract surgery, especially when using latest lens implant technology, including multifocal and toric intraocular lenses.
He has published extensively, co-authored a textbook on ophthalmic surgery, and presented his research at national meetings. He is a member of numerous local and national societies, and has been named one of America’s top ophthalmologists.
Dr. Farbowitz is committed to help those less fortunate by participating in Vision Harvest, a local program that performs cataract surgery on the uninsured, and by embarking on medical missions to perform surgery in 3rd world countries.
Dr. Farbowitz enjoys fitness, biking and spending time with his family. He lives with his wife and two teenage children in Bergen County.
